Blog Mission Statement

To objectively analyze current events, to promote a healthful discussion and debate that is based not on opinion but on fact, to forget one’s preconceived notions, to recognize the power of logic as a tool of thought, and to use the methods described above to describe the truth.

To Objectively Analyze Current Events

I have found when trawling the news, CNBC, Fox, ABC, or the blogosphere that an enormous amount of accepted ideas are actually based on subjective reasoning. I reject the notion that current events and politics cannot be thought about in anything but a subjective fashion based on whether or not you like big government or small government. I reject the idea that a journalist has to put a spin on things, or that facts can be twisted to mean something other than what they say. Perception should have nothing to do with actual truth, it never has, and it never will.

To Promote a Healthful Discussion and Debate That is Based Not On Opinion But On Fact

Discussions based on opinions rather than on fact when dealing with important issues are pointless. Because the arguments on either side are opinionated, no real conclusion can be reached.  As such facts are tantamount to any debate that wishes to uncover the truth.

To Forget One’s Preconceived Notions

The truth does not always follow commonsense, though some would say that it has a tendency to do so. However, what a person has learned throughout his or her lifetime may have obscured the path to truth, and therefore that person must let go of whatever is impeding that pathway in order to uncover the truth. It might even be as simple as, “Cats always land on their feet” or something as wide rangingly important as “Big/Small government is bad for the country”.  These statements must be refined, narrowed, focused, explored, or even abandoned in order for the truth to be found. Preconceptions are only barriers on the path to reality.

To Recognize the Power of Logic as a Tool of Thought

Logic is an incredibly powerful tool, and yet it is also the simplest and most effective method of thought at the disposal of the human mind. Logic requires initial assumptions, from which required results and/or circumstances are then inferred. If those required results and/or circumstances do not tally with reality then one of two things has occurred: either the logic is faulty, or one of the initial assumptions is faulty.  Because logic acts as a tool with which to cut away that which does not tally with reality, it is an excellent way to find truth by means of process of elimination.

To Describe the Truth

It is impossible to understand the truth we have found if we cannot describe it. Therefore on this blog I will attempt, to the best of my ability, to apply all of these in my analysis and discussion. Only by doing so can I even begin to describe what little I can or have grasped about the truth.
